Reading With your child
The most important criteria is to choose a book that your child enjoys reading. The Stoneham Public Library is a great resource to help find quality books to read. Also, classroom book orders will give you great ideas for popular stories and famous authors. My students will also be visiting the South library once a week.
Your child should be reading for at least 20 minutes a day. This is extremely important and it should be logged in their reading logs. Reading right before bed or in the car is a great solution for students who have an active social life or extra curricular activities after school.
Sometimes reading just isn't enough. When your child is done reading a book, ask them some simple questions to see if they have an understanding of the story. This will help build their comprehension.
